How to reduce tension with coworkers through healthy confrontation

Q: A senior coworker and I work in similar but barely overlapping fields. We aren’t often on the same project, but when we are it’s disheartening. He drags his feet on things I need, is harsh in his criticisms of my work, and often passes tasks that I should be working to his direct reports without telling me. My boss and other coworkers don’t seem interested in helping resolve the tension — even though it stalls or stops many of our projects. How do I address and resolve my hurt feelings and the productivity issues with my coworker?
